Hi there, so perhaps as you can guess from the title of the blog I have decided that I am going to start blogging.... or at least, give it a go.
I am a Mindfulness, Yoga and English teacher, living in Valencia Spain, of these three jobs, my passion is practicing and teaching Mindfulness, so I intend to blog about my day to day experience with a focus on my practice (and lack of practice) and my experiences and I´ll also comment on and review Mindfulness books, articles, websites, blogs and so on.
But first, some history; originally from London, it was actually Mindfulness that brought me to Spain and, I suppose, Mindfulness that ensured I stayed there, back in 2012.
In May 2012, I was living in London, working and dying as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS. After a personal crisis the year before which heralded my introduction to meditation, I reached a professional crisis and realised I needed to switch careers. Not that Speech and Language Therapy is not a good profession or career, as the reaction of many many people when I explain that the crisis involved realising I needed to leave a job which felt like it just wasn´t for me. So in February I quit my job and quickly found a new part-time promotion which, in my mind, would allow me to figure out what I really wanted to do. However, life quickly got involved (as it invariably does when you are really clear about things) and fast tracked my new career path(s).
In the two month break I took between jobs I decided to go on an intensive mindfulness (I was becoming obsessed) retreat in the Spanish mountains of Alicante, the decision to go there made on seeing a particularly stunning photo of a beautiful wooden hexagonal cabin overlooking stunning views and a quick phonecall to the boss with the strange name of Bodhin.
To cut a long story short, I went on retreat and stayed, returning a month after my retreat as the retreat centre cook (no, no previous experience). And 6 years later, I still live in Spain and one of my current jobs is as a trainer on Mindfulness teacher training courses at the said retreat centre (solterreno.com/es). More on my experiences there to come.
So, an introduction to me and to where a very prominent fork in my road took me 6 years ago...
I hope you enjoy my blogs and invite comments and discussion on anything you
like/don´t like find relevant to you or not.
